Systematics of Neotropical Lauxaniidae (Diptera) Page

 

Here are included the data from my PH. D. thesis project, that has dealt with the systematics of the family Lauxaniidae of the Neotropical Region. This thesis was developed in the "Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo", under the advisor of Dr. Nelson Papavero, and was presented at "Instituto de Biociências da USP", in 1993.

 

Catalogue of Neotropical Lauxaniidae (Diptera)

The Catalogue of the family Lauxaniidae in the Americas south of Mexico is almost read. I am just waiting the publication of the descriptions of nineteen new genera for the region to publish it.

This work includes data from 63 genera and 367 species. All basic bibliography of the systematics of those taxa are cited, besides data about the fate of the types.

Here it is just included a list of the Neotropical genera, with data about the type species, author, number of species and their distribution.

This catalogue is one of the last concerning the families of Neotropical Diptera to be read, in a project that began in the 60's, under the editorial supervisor of Dr. Nelson Papavero, from "Museu de Zoologia da USP", São Paulo, Brasil.

Systematics of Neotropical Lauxaniidae - Publications

A systematic review of a group of genera, characterized by the presence of long antennae, i. e., with the length of the first flagellomere at least six times its basal width was done besides the elaboration of the Catalogue. This group includes: Asilostoma Hendel, Bacilloflagellomera Papp & Silva, Cephalella Malloch, Lauxaniella Malloch, Lauxanostegana Malloch, Pachyopella Shewell, Stenolauxania Malloch and Triconopsis Hendel.

The thesis has included also a key to the identification of the Neotropical Lauxaniidae genera, with figures.
